F. W. De Klerk, the last apartheid president of South Africa, who shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Nelson Mandela, for ending peacefully racial discrimination in South Africa, gave an interview to a Greek newspaper, on June 15, 2014. After noting the international praise for the banks and companies of South Africa and its unemployment rate of 36% he made an astounding prediction :
“The ANC government defines itself as a three party alliance, of lhe ANC itself, of the Communist Party of South Africa and of COSATU, the largest confederation of South African trade unions. However, the largest trade union belonging to COSATU, has already stated its intention to withdraw and establish it’s own workers party. They are extreme leftists who want nationalisations - like the communist party. I believe that the new party will absorb the EFF of Julius Malema (third in the recent elections with 6.3% of the vote) who has similar beliefs. The open question is : Will the ANC lean left not to loose votes or will it stand up to them and tell them, that what they propose is a madness, that has failed wherever it was put in practice.
Faced with this astounding prediction the Greek journalist stayed silent and asked De Klerk’s opinion on the future of… Greece up and of the euro! In response he got praises for the hostage of the banks and of the media, Prime Minister Samaras and doubts whether the required national consensuses, for the fiscal, banking and political unification of Europe, will come about.
What should the Greek journalist have asked Mr De Klerk?
1. How long does he think that the current trend of increasing inequality and increasing concentration of wealth can continue, in South Africa, and what measures, if any, would he take to reverse it, if he was in power?
2. What is his opinion on the long strike in the platinum mines, on the murders of trade unionists and on the position of the trade unions that South Africa is deprived of substantial revenues due to fraudulent costing/pricing by the mining multinationals ?
3. What’s his opinion about the stagnation of the South African economy? (According to the IMF, Sub-Saharan Africa, including South Africa, grew by 4,7% in 2013 and by 6% if South Africa is excluded.)
4. What is his opinion about the energy problems of South Africa and the recent privatisation of energy in the People's Republic of Congo ? (South Africa had come to an initial agreement with Kinshasa to purchase a large part of the electricity to be produced by a future third hydroelectric dam on the river Congo. The privatisation of the sector, following American demands (?) seems to lead to the construction of several smaller private dams on which both Pretoria and Kinshasa will depend.)
5. What's his opinion about the 13 dead South African soldiers, in the Central African Republic, during the coup d’ etat of March 2013, about what followed and about the inclusion of the European Union and the exclusion of the African Union from the Paris summit on Boko Haram ? Does he support the efforts of the Zuma government for African solutions to African problems?
6. What is his opinion of the Chinese penetration of Africa and of the effort of the BRICS, where South Africa is a member, to provide an alternative source for the financing of African development.
7. Beyond Africa, beyond Mr Samaras’ Greece and beyond Mme Merkel’s Europe what is his opinion about the direction of the world economy? Did he have a chance to read, Thomas Piketty’s blockbuster book ? The concentration of wealth in the top 10%, 1% and 1000th continues unrelenting. How will this story end?
The article of the interview ends as follows: we had dinner at the roof garden restaurant of the hotel Grande Bretagne and selected red malet with vegetables and white wine. The cost was €75.
The journalist forgot to ask what percentage of the population of South Africa can buy such a meal once-in-a-lifetime.

Τι θα έπρεπε να ρωτήσει ο κ. Παλαιολόγος τον Ντεκλέρκ ;
1. Για πόσο καιρό νομίζει ότι μπορεί να συνεχίσει να αυξάνεται η ανισότητα και η συγκέντρωση του πλούτου στη Ν. Αφρική και τι μέτρα θα έπαιρνε εκείνος, αν θα έπαιρνε, για την αναστροφή αυτής της τάσης, αν ήτανε κυβέρνηση ;
2. Τι γνώμη έχει για την εξάμηνη απεργία στα ορυχεία της πλατίνας, για τις δολοφονίες συνδικαλιστών και για την επιμονή των συνδικάτων ότι οι πολυεθνικές με τις γνωστές υπερτιμολογήσεις-υποτιμολογήσεις στερούν τη Ν. Αφρική από πολύτιμους πόρους ;
5. Τι γνώμη έχει για τους 13 νεκρούς του στρατού της Ν. Αφρικής κατά το πραξικόπημα στην Κεντρική Αφρική το Μάρτιο του 2013, για όσα ακολούθησαν και για την συμμετοχή της ΕΕ και τον αποκλεισμό της Αφρικανικής Ένωσης από τη διάσκεψη, στο Παρίσι, για την Μπόκο Χαράμ ; Στηρίζει την προσπάθεια της κυβέρνησης Ζούμα για αφρικανικές λύσεις σε αφρικανικά προβλήματα ;
6. Τι γνώμη έχει για την Κινεζική διείσδυση στην Αφρική και για την προσπάθεια των BRICS, στα οποία συμμετέχει η χώρα του, να υπάρξει εναλλακτική διέξοδος για την χρηματοδότηση της Αφρικανικής ανάπτυξης. Οι χρηματοδοτικές ανάγκες της υπό-σαχάριας Αφρικής είναι τεράστιες. Πως θα εξασφαλιστεί σταθερή και φερέγγυα χρηματοδότηση ;
7. Πέρα από την Αφρική, την Ελλάδα του Σαμαρά και την Ευρώπη της Μέρκελ, τι γνώμη έχει για την πορεία της παγκόσμιας οικονομίας ; Πρόλαβε να διαβάσει το βιβλίο του Τομά Πικεττύ που χαλάει κόσμο ; Η συγκέντρωση του πλούτου στο 10%, στο 1% και στο 1 χιλιοστό συνεχίζεται ακάθεκτη. Πως θα τελειώσει αυτή η ιστορία ;
